William E. Coombs, age 89, a resident of Des Plaines, Illinois for 20 years passed away October 6, 2022. Beloved husband of 65 years to Evelyn "Evie" (née Nelson). Loving father of Liane (Michael) Sanchez, Larissa (David) Harwick, the late Kerry Marie Coombs, the late Lanette "Lani" Madej, and the late Laurene "Renie" Sadoski. Proud grandfather of Jordan Harwick and Reid Sanchez. William was born May 1, 1933 in Lincoln, Illinois to the late Earl and the late Minnie Louise Coombs. He was a veteran of the US Army. William was a willing worker and took any opportunity to volunteer throughout his life. He was a grade school basketball coach for 8 years and a football coach for 4 years. Everyone lovingly referred to him as "Coach." He was also very involved in his church, St. Alphonsus. There he was a part of the Father's Club and helped out at many of their events. William was an avid camper. He loved animals and could always be found fishing. William will be remembered for his great laugh and was well loved by everyone who knew him.
