Thomas R. LeFeber, 90, of Des Plaines, IL, fondly known as "Tom or Tommy," passed away on October 23, 2024. Tom was born on July 16, 1934, in Chicago to Raymond and Helen LeFeber (nee Singer).
Beloved husband of the late Pamela LeFeber. Tom and Pam were married for 26 years. They loved traveling and taking care of their dogs Sadie and Lucy. He is also preceded in death by his ex-wife Jan. Tom and Jan had four children together who they adored. Tom and Jan remained friends until her passing in 2020.
Loving father, of Cathy (Bobby) Helin, Cindi (Jeff) Mc Dermott, Greg (Su) LeFeber, Jacqui (Mike) Schuster; proud grandfather (papa), of Sami, Andrew, Travis, Jacquie (Zach), Kristin, Dani (Cody), Matthew, Megan and Joshua; great-grandfather of nine, dear brother of, Dave (Janet) LeFeber, Jim (Judy) LeFeber; and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; and dear brother-in-law of Debbie Arend. Tom enjoyed many breakfasts with niece Deb Dale. In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Pam; sister, Rae Jean; and brother-in law, Ron Dale.
Tom proudly served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Following his military service, Tom worked as a butcher in the family grocery store, Rays Food Mart. When Tom retired from the family business he went to work at Dominick's as a butcher for over 25 years. Customers and employees all loved him! Tom then retired from Dominick's and spent time with his wife Pam, family and friends.
Tom loved to play cribbage, watch sports, fish, read the paper, and work on crossword puzzles. He exercised consistently even lifting weights up to the age of 89! Tom loved dogs and dogs always knew to come to him for treats he carried in his pocket.
Tom was known as the Mayor of the neighborhood. He is described by others as being inspirational, a mentor, family, honorable, adored, strong, respectful and loving. Tom lived a life filled with joy. He was always telling jokes and making people laugh. He had a deep love for his family and friends. He impacted every person he met. Tom often said, "One day at a time." A quote he got out of AA. He was sober for almost 40 years, and he talked very highly of his sponsor, Chuck Finucane.
Tom will be deeply missed but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 pm by Pastor Tim Roames at G.L. Hill Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois 60016.
