Obituary

Thomas Charles Becker, age 64, of Des Plaines, IL passed away Friday May 13, 2022. He was born on November 10, 1957 in Chicago, IL to Eugene and Marjorie Becker. He grew up in the Independence Park neighborhood and was a graduate of Schurz High School.
Tom married Valerie (Wellar) on September 12, 1986 in Mundelein, IL. They along with their children, Tori and Mark, became a blended family of four. The family was completed when Nicole was born in 1990.

Tom was a licensed realtor and assisted many friends and family in finding their dream home. He was also employed by Peerless Fence Company and was instrumental in helping them become the company they are today.

Tom was very active in his community. He was the Des Plaines 6th Ward Alderman from May, 1999 to May, 2007. During his tenure he brought many traditions to Des Plaines including the Christmas Tree lighting. He was an avid volunteer with many organizations including Little League, City of Des Plaines Special Events Commission and Irish Fest for Special Olympics. He helped facilitate the ground breaking of Metro Square and bringing Rivers Casino to Des Plaines. Some of his special interests were Koi fish ponds, riding his Harley and playing cards with his friends.

Tom is survived by his wife Valerie, his children Tori, Mark (Renee), Nicole and his grandchildren Brookelynn, Charlotte, Autumn, Gabrielle, granddogs Kaylee, Gracie and Max, and his brother Bob (Laura). He was UT to many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brother William (Evie) and numerous pets.

A memorial visitation will take place Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 3:00 pm at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois.
