In loving memory of Ronald Walter Aures, age 90, of Chicago, Illinois, who passed away on November 23, 2023 while being cared for at the Mount Prospect Senior Living, Memory Care. Ronald was a proud veteran, and a distinguished leader in both military and civilian life.
Born on November 21, 1933, in Springfield, Illinois, to the late Trig and Ruth (nee Kendall) Aures, Ronald developed a deep love for his Springfield roots, which he carried with him throughout his life. He proudly served in the Illinois National Guard, where he earned numerous honors and achieved the esteemed rank of Sergeant Major. Ronald's dedication to service extended beyond his military career, as he spent a lifetime contributing to the Guard during weekends and assuming various leadership roles. Ronald was honored to also serve as President of the Illinois National Guard Association.
A skilled sharpshooter, Ronald exemplified discipline and excellence in all aspects of his life. His commitment to duty and leadership extended to civilian life, where he made significant contributions to the hospitality industry in Chicago. Through his involvement with the VIP travel school, Ronald became a respected figure in Chicago's hotel scene, notably serving as a concierge at the prestigious Drake Hotel.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ronald cherished his role as a loving husband to the late Michelle M. Flynn-Aures and father to the late Katherine E. Aures-Sellergren, the late Debbie A. Waltrich, and the late Sue Ellen Jayko. He took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Andrew Cembala and Nichole (Matt) Heyen, and as a great-grandfather to Chase and Alex Heyen. Ronald was also a dear brother to Janet S. (Arthur) Aures-Gowin and a fond uncle to Lori A. (Keith) Flaminio and the late Greg (Nicci) Gowin.
Services will be held to honor Ronald's memory, with interment at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois on December 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. The funeral care for Ronald is provided by G.L.
