Obituary

Richard Moozakis (Rich, Rick, Richie, Moose), lover of baseball, devoted husband and father and cherished friend of too many to count, died on June 29, 2020 – many, many years before his time. He was 62. Rich was born in Chicago on August 7, 1957. He was a city kid and for many years, didn't stray too far from where he lived on Wellington Avenue. It was a good time to grow up; and even at a young age,  he showcased athletic skills that more than once resulted in his being picked for the neighborhood baseball team before his brother – who was five years older. Sports – especially baseball – was an essential part of Rich's life. The Cubs were always on TV when he got home from school, and as he got older, Wrigley Field became a second home when he became one the legions of neighborhood kids who cleaned up after the games were over in exchange for tickets. Like every Cubs fan, he knew agony well before he tasted success in 2016 when the Cubs finally won it all. But he was much more than a fan; he was a student of the game – whether it was watching, playing or umpiring. Rich was a loving husband and family man. He was a proud father who raised his sons to be good people – just like he was. His family was the first priority, but his baseball family was just as important. He was a valued teammate, leader and mentor. Fair play was an important part of how he lived his life. Rich was preceded in death by father, Peter, and mother, Constance. Rich is survived by his wife, Sue, and sons, Scott and Steven; as well as his brother, Chuck (Ann); niece, Andrea (Christian); cousins, his Aunt Artie, many other nieces and nephews and a grand-niece, Maya, who unfortunately, will never get to know how truly wonderful Rich was. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. www.cancer.org A private memorial will be held. Funeral care provided by G.L. Hills Funeral Home.
