Reginald Somers
Harris
Aug 11, 1928 — Sep 19, 2024
Park Ridge
Reginald Somers Harris was born August 11, 1928 in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada to Jasper and Anna Hope (nee Somers) Harris.
The family moved to Chicago when Reg was a young boy. Reg, with his big brother Wendall, biked and walked all over Chicago – to the Lake, Cub games, and even to Cedar Lake, Indiana.
Reg met the love of his life, Ethel (nee Romin) at a Youth For Christ rally. They struck up a conversation and discovered they both attended Austin High School. They dated through high school, and after a few years were engaged and married on July 24, 1948.
Reg and Ethel were blessed with three children: Kathy (Jerry) O'Shaughnessy, Arlington Heights, IL; Gerry (Ginger) Harris, Des Plaines, IL; and Sandy (Jeff) Petersen, Lincoln, NE.
Reg worked most of his life for the Santa Fe Railroad.
Reg committed his life to Jesus in Sunday School, and that commitment shaped the rest of his life. Reg was a committed believer and follower of Jesus Christ. He and Ethel were always actively involved in their local church. He was an elder, treasurer, choir member, and Sunday School teacher. Reg and Ethel's closest friends were also dedicated church members who enjoyed being in each other's homes.
Reg was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister Etta, wife Ethel and great grandson Judah (Petersen). He is survived by his sister Hope, all three children and their spouses, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson.
