Gabbert
Jan 12, 1924 — Aug 3, 2024
Des Plaines
Pauline S. Gabbert, 100, peacefully passed away in Des Plaines, IL on August 3, 2024. Pauline was born January 12, 1924 in Moline, IL. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her son, John (Karen) Gabbert of Arlington Hts., daughter, Karen (Raymond) Iversen of Macomb, IL, granddaughters Alisen (William) Courtemanche of Madbury, NH, Kirsten (Geoff) Akens of Colorado Springs, CO, grandson Kirk (Sarah) Iversen of Macomb, IL, step-granddaughter Joni (George) Cunningham of Aliso Viejo, CA, great grandchildren, Alyssa Iversen, Madeline and Lily Courtemanche, Sean and Taylor Cunningham.
Pauline was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69-years, Charles, her parents and 9 siblings, Charlotte, Ralph, Loretta, Doris, Eugene, Roger, Glen, Donald, and James and Kiley, a granddaughter.
Pauline and Chuck, the love of her life, enjoyed so many things together. They loved to travel and visited Europe and every US state. They also toured the US and Canada in their RV and spent many winters in Tucson, AZ. She stayed active as long as she could. Pauline was an avid square dancer and a member of the Happy Twirlers for many years. Bicycle riding was another way she and Chuck enjoyed the outdoors. Even while living at Oakton Arms she went to exercise class almost every day, and she kept her mind busy with word games and puzzles. Pauline was a skilled seamstress making clothes for Karen and her granddaughters while they were growing up. She also put her skills to work making draperies and crafting.
Family was very important to her. She and Chuck encouraged John and Karen in what ever sport or activity they pursued. Pauline loved entertaining, inviting family and friends for dinner and celebrating holidays or special occasions. She loved to cook and bake, and made the best pies. Pauline enjoyed playing games, dominoes especially, and taught many of her family and friends how to play. She was a true Cubs fan, going to Wrigley Field a couple of times each season for many years but also watching them play on TV. She was an active member and volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Plaines for more than 65 years.
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 2:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 675 E Algonquin Rd, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
