Odessa Porter (Butler), age 96, of Mt. Prospect, Illinois passed away May 11, 2022. Odessa was born June 9, 1925, in Rosedale, Mississippi. She was the seventh of nine siblings born to Perry and Georgia Butler. Her siblings include Josie, Mille, Lorraine, Willie Mae, Ruby, Bertha, Perry, and Freddie. Odessa, age 96, was the last survivor of the Butler generation. Odessa was married on Thanksgiving Day in 1943 to Lee Porter, who proceeded her in death after 71 years of marriage. They moved to Chicago in 1945, and to this union, six children were born: Wesley Porter (PD), Vivian Cooper (Ronald), Willie Mae Matthews (Larry), Linda Watkins (Leon), Lee Porter Jr. (PD), and Delores Porter. As the daughter of a Baptist minister, Odessa gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Abundant Life Christian Ministries under the Pastorate of Rev. Leon Watkins, her son-in-law. She worked as a hostess for Macke Company for many years. Odessa a loving mother is survived by four daughters: Vivian Cooper, Willie Mae Matthews, Linda Porter-Watkins, and Delores Porter. Odessa was also blessed to be the grandmother of 13 Grandchildren: Richard Porter, Antonio Porter, Pierre Jones (PD), Katrina Cooper, John Porter (PD), Lawrence Matthews, Shalonda Matthews, Darnell Porter, Joshua Watkins, Jessica Watkins, Quincy Bailey, Monique Bailey, William Bailey and 15 Great grandchildren and 5 Great-great grandchildren. She will live in our hearts forever. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 20, 2022 from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at G.L.
