Obituary

Nina Blasi (nee Krenzel), age 80, of Des Plaines, formerly of Chicago, IL passed away August 2, 2025. Beloved wife of over 54 years to Frank Blasi. Loving mother of Dominick (Charlotte) Blasi. Proud grandmother of Matthew Blasi. Dear sister of the late John Krenzel. Fondest aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

Nina was born December 2, 1944 in Oak Park, IL to the late John and Dorothy (nee Capone) Krenzel. Growing up in an Italian community truly defined the rest of her life. You could say Nina was a social butterfly. She made friends with everyone she met, and those friends became family. She loved to entertain, talk, go out to delicious restaurants, and cooking was her specialty. Those who had the opportunity enjoyed her delicious meatballs, sausage and peppers!

She always put others first, no matter what. That was Nina's mission, to serve others. Nina was board president for her condo association, a volunteer lunch lady while her son was in school, and she even called bingo at church. She loved church, and was a devout Catholic. She attended Mass at St. Emily every day, where she enjoyed singing, and made sure to spend plenty of time praying for others. She also assisted with arranging flowers at the altar and participated in many church events and groups. Holy week was a favorite time of hers, along with Christmas. Lastly, she was a volunteer with Misericordia.

Besides church, though, Nina truly treasured her family. They were her world. Every minute spent with them was the best and she couldn't have asked for more. Nina will be greatly missed by her family, friends, all those who knew her.
