Nancy L. Schacht

Nancy Lee Schacht, age 79, a resident of Des Plaines, Illinois since 1969, passed away October 11, 2026. Beloved wife of 57 years to Richard Schacht. Loving mother of Jason (Sabina) Schacht and Karla (Sam) Mannhardt. Proud grandmother of Marissa and Lex Mannhardt. Dear sister of the late Penny Soulak.

Nancy was born November 7, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Carl and Carol (nee Behnke) Jurgansen. Though she grew up in the area, Nancy moved to Des Plaines after marrying the love of her life, Richard. Throughout her life, Nancy kept busy by raising her family and getting involved in local organizations. She was a committed member of First Congregational Church, participated and was president for a time of the Des Plaines Junior Woman's Club, and was an avid bowler. She also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

What Nancy devoted herself to most was animals. She and Rich always had dogs. She showed several dogs and even had a couple of litters. Her many philanthropic endeavors were directed toward charities that supported animals. Though dogs were her life, Nancy found the greatest source of love in her grandkids, who she was so proud of.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment to follow in Ridgewood Memorial Park, Des Plaines, Illinois.
