Obituary

Myrtle Klebe went home to the Lord on July 9, 2020 at the age of 92 from complications Covid-19. She was born in Bordulac, ND, to William and Minnie (Koppleman) Grager December 20, 1927.  As one of ten children, she loved sharing stories of life growing up with a big family on a farm!  Upon graduating high school, Myrt worked in Washington DC for a short time before returning to attend a Lutheran college in Nebraska.  She became a teacher and taught in North Dakota until she married Virgil Klebe in 1950.  After living in Dickinson, ND and Minneapolis, MN, she settled in Des Plaines, where she remained.  Here Myrt raised her three boys while building a career at Ben Franklin/Fox Retail Group until she retired.

After retiring, she found any opportunity to travel with her friends and family!  Always giving of herself, Myrt could be found over the years volunteering at the Frisbee Senior Center, PADS shelter program, Meals on Wheels, the Des Plaines Public Library, and ringing bells in the Immanuel Lutheran Church bell choir, where she was an active member for many years.  The month of August would often find her in Springfield spending hours at the Illinois State Fair watching her beloved horse shows, and during the Olympics, one would find her glued to the television cheering on the figure skating competitors!  She also loved attending plays, movies, golfing, attending Red Hat Society functions, and one would rarely find her without a book in her hand and several others stacked next to her!

Of her nine siblings, brothers Willard, Alfred, William Grager and Eric Groskreutz, and sisters Florence, Esther Bohn, Evelyn Cota, and Grace Garber, Myrt is survived by her sister Inez Buboltz of Minnesota as well as sister in law Carole Klebe of North Dakota.  Her three sons and families brought great joy to Myrt.  She is survived by sons Douglas Klebe (Deborah), grandsons Christopher (Hannah) and Kyle Klebe of California, son Greg Klebe (Debbie), grandchildren Christopher Fitzharris of Minnesota and Lindsey Fitzharris (Adrian Teal) of England, and Michael Klebe (Julie), granddaughters Hannah Wiemers (David) and Sarah Roberts (Jacob) along with two great grandchildren, Phillip and Blythe, all of Illinois.  She also leaves behind many much-loved nieces and nephews, along with her dear friends Joyce and Jeff Solvig and family, Carol Thompson, and many others who touched her life over the years!

A memorial gathering will be taking place on Thursday, June 17, 2021 beginning at 6:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 855 Lee Street, Des Plaines, Illinois 60016. Interment will be taking place in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Valley City, North Dakota.

Remembrances can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 855 Lee St., Des Plaines, IL 60016 or to the Frisbie Senior Center, 52 East Northwest Highway, Des Plaines, IL, 60016.
