Michael J.
O'Hara
Jun 7, 1948 — Nov 18, 2023
Des Plaines
Michael Joseph O'Hara once said, "Time never really mattered that much to me." On Saturday, November 18, 2023, his time came to a close, peacefully in his home as he intended. He was born in Chicago on June 7, 1948, to the late Thomas and Nora (née Boland) O'Hara. A Chicagoan through and through, he was tough, wise, honest, and generous. He was a trusted and beloved friend, brother, husband, and grandfather; adored husband of 46 years to the late Mary (née Hughes); dedicated father to Kevin (Kendra), Ryan (Maureen), Neil (Katie), and Gavin (Laura) O'Hara; and dear brother of Noreen, the late Thomas, the late John, the late Mary Ellen, and Patricia.
A father of four boys, his heart melted with the arrival of his grandchildren. He was the proud grandfather to Maura, Reilly, Erin, Ellie, Brendan, Conor, Michael, Rowan, Liam, Finley, Everett, and Cormac O'Hara. In addition to his family, he loved, among many other pleasures and pursuits, the Green Bay Packers, Chicago White Sox, cooking, reading, fine food, travel, and nice cars. If not occupied with one of those varied interests, one could be sure to find him in his favorite spot on the living room floor, propped on his pillows, watching television at deafening levels--a true passion of his. He will be remembered especially for his wit and commentary, and his tear-inducing laughter.
A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Emily Church, 1400 E. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. Funeral care provided by G.L.
