Obituary

Michael Edward Musser, age 67, a resident of Des Plaines, Illinois for 42 years passed away June 29, 2024. Beloved husband of Diane (nee Johnson). Loving son of Robert Musser and Judith (nee Peterson) Foley. Dear brother of Glenn (Laura Brown) Musser, Laura Cagwin, and Linda Cassells Musser. Fond uncle of Matthew (Becky), Jaqlyn, Shannon (Jay), Katrina (Thibault), Jon, Kody (Payton), great-niece Ava, and Phoomin (Orawan) Maneechote. Michael was born September 26, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois.

Michael graduated from the University of Illinois on May 21, 1978, with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences Degree. Throughout his career, he worked at Mount Prospect State Bank, Transportation Logistic, Cosco, Genex, and BTS. He also worked as a bus driver for handicapped children and became a licensed Realtor for Stark in 2007.

Outside of work, Michael had a passion for sailing and music. He was an accomplished cross country skier, receiving medals and awards from 1993 to 2004 in events such as the American Birkebeiner and Mora Vasaloppet. He also received an award for completing the Des Plaines River Canoe Marathon in 2002. Mike had a love for sailing at an early age at Pistakee Bay in Mc Henry County IL. He and his brother Glenn learned from their Grandfather Sidney L. Peterson Sr. – he continued with that throughout his adult life and continued to sail at Powers Lake in Wisconsin. He also encouraged and enjoyed sailing with his Nephew (Godson) Matt Musser.

Mike loved music. Studying Music at the University of Illinois he became proficient at playing both the Piano and Saxophone. He played in wedding bands as well as being a member of the Foreskins, Impulse and Miller & Musser. His music taste ranged from Led Zeppelin to Bach. In his spare time, Michael performed live at various venues with his band, Impulse, showcasing his talent on the keyboard and saxophone. He also enjoyed spending time with his bandmates, Paul, Mike, and Diane. Some of those venues included Penny Pub in 2017, Trezeros Kitchen + Tap in 2016, and El Sombrero in 2018.  He loved creating songs and writing music with his wife Diane, Mark Miller and Paul R.  Numbers of Love, Hero, Cruising and Monday, Tuesday Wednesday etc. He loved sharing his passion for music by getting his wife involved with his music and also helping his nephew Jon in learning to play the saxophone.

Mike was a loving husband and father to his late cat Buddy Boy - and he was always in his thoughts.

He had a great love for his family and friends, and he will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
