Matea Sanchez Monterroza vda. de Garcia, widow of Maximiliano Garcia, a beloved and loving 97-year-old, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She was born September 21, 1926 in El Salvador to Ignacio Sanchez and Cecilia Monterroza. Throughout her life, Matea touched the hearts of many with her kindness, compassion, and unwavering optimism.

Matea was known for her dedication to her family, friends, and community. she was a devoted spouse, parent, grandmom and friend, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. She was a hard-working person who loved cleaning, cooking and taking care of the family, her favorite phrase was "Quieres comer."  When she lived in El Salvador she used to work the fields and help in various places.

In her free time, Matea enjoyed watching the telenovelas. She enjoyed sewing various items like sock, shirts and different clothes. When asked why, she would say it had a hole.

Matea is survived by her loving family, including children: Maximilliano & Rosa Garcia, Carmen & Leonardo Melendez, Salvador & Angela Garcia, Federico & Guadalupe Garcia, Josefina Garcia, Jesus & Maria Elena Garcia, Lilliana & Paul Bellos and Jorge & Nora Garcia.  Matea leaves behind 29 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren and 19 Great-Great Grandchildren. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her and she will be deeply missed.

May Matea's spirit live on in the hearts of those she touched, and may she rest in eternal peace.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2024 beginning with prayers at 10:15 am at the funeral home followed by Mass at 11:00 am at St. Mary Church, 794 Pearson St., Des Plaines, Illinois.
