Mary Kathryn
Wall
Feb 26, 1937 — Oct 30, 2024
Des Plaines
Mary Kathryn Wall (nee Whyte), age 87, resident of Des Plaines, Illinois, for 50 years, passed away October 30, 2024. She was the beloved mother of Eileen (Gary) Paul, Patrick (Heather) Wall, Sheila (David) Elston, Karyn (Lee) Edmunds, John (Pam) Wall, Joseph (Amy) Wall, Judith (Tony) Grande, and Thomas (Erin) Potempa-Wall; proud grandmother of 22, and great-grandmother of 12. Dear sister of Ruth Burgman and the late Donald Whyte. She was born February 26, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Joseph and the late Helen (nee Lamb) Whyte.
Kay, as she was known to all, was a voracious reader with a quick wit and an even quicker laugh. She instilled her love of books and reading in all of her children, and tried to teach the values she lived by, some of which stuck. She could calm any child - she was a true baby whisperer. She was a sucker for a stray dog, filling her home with love and animal hair. Her final dog, Opie, was her pride and joy, her constant companion, and her true soulmate. Kay was kind, patient, and generous to a fault, giving to anyone in need, even when she had very little. She was a notoriously bad cook who somehow managed to feed eight children three meals a day - which also inspired all of her children to learn to cook. She loved to sneak off with her good friends Marsi and Leslie for a smoke and a laugh. She cherished a good story, listening to her children or friends, watching old movies, or reading aloud to her kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren, or for the last few years, her friends at Belmont Village. She volunteered throughout her life in various capacities at the church and in her community. She will be sorely missed by those that knew and loved her. Kay can now enjoy the peace and quiet she deserved.
