Leora Ruth
Bonvini
Jan 24, 1930 — Nov 5, 2025
Edgewood
Leora Ruth Bonvini (nee Groth) formerly of Chicago, Glenview and Galena Illinois passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on November 5, 2025 at her home in Edgewood, Washington. Leora was born January 24, 1930 and raised in Chicago where she met future husband Alfred P. Bonvini on the Chicago Edgewater Beach Hotel's legendary Beach Walk dance floor, and their lifelong love of dancing together began.
Following their marriage in 1953, the couple resided in Chicago before moving to their home of over 50 years in Glenview, Illinois where their family grew to five and their circle of friends grew through the decades. Born on the north side, Lee was a Cubs fan who loved going to Wrigley Field. She remained close with her lifelong friends, enjoying their frequent canasta club evenings, but her greatest pleasure was the time spent together with her family. Always embracing her faith, Lee loved working at the Techny Society of the Divine Word Ministry in Northbrook, Illinois followed by many years employment as an Executive Assistant to the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Baxter International in Deerfield, Illinois.
In retirement, the couple enjoyed life in Galena where ever-energetic Leora made many new friends while enjoying working in a European chocolates shop. After the untimely death of her husband Al in 2006, Leora relocated to suburban Seattle and was near family for the remainder of her life.
Leora is lovingly survived by daughter Coralie Wells (nee Bonvini) and husband Jim, son Alfred Bonvini and partner David Puszczewicz, son Raymond Bonvini and husband Brent Langman, by grandchildren Keallyn and Ryan, their spouses Mac and Allison, great grandchildren Elise and Whitman and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents Mary and Anton Groth, loving husband Alfred Bonvini and sisters Gladys Zgorski (nee Groth) and Loretta Poindexter (nee Groth).
A private funeral service and internment for family and life-long friends will be held at the All Saints Cemetery Mausoleum in Des Plaines, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations in Leora's name to the Discalced Carmelite Monastery, 949 North River Road in Des Plaines, IL 60016, (847) 298-4241, https://stjosephsassociation.org/carmels/des-plaines . Funeral care provided by G.L. Hills Funeral Home. For information, please call 847-699-9003 or visit www.glhillsfuneralhome.com .
