Obituary

Judith Elsie Stettner, nee Schroeder, age 86, a former resident of Des Plaines, Illinois from 1969-2020, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2023. Judy was born April 6, 1936, in Chicago to Elsie and Elmer Schroeder, and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond, and cherished son, Craig. She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Allison) and David (Amy), her four grandchildren Nathan, Aaron, Elizabeth and Nicholas, her dear brother Ray (Carolyn), nieces Jodi and Jill, nephew Dan, and their families. Family was extremely important to her, and there was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her immediate and extended relatives. Before becoming a wonderful, giving, serving, and supportive mother, she was a 5th grade teacher at the old West School in Des Plaines, and later served in multiple capacities at North, Plainfield, and Cumberland elementary schools, and Maine West High School. She never lost her love for helping shape and caring for children. Judy was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Des Plaines from 1970 to 2010, where she shared her talents and enthusiasm by leading the young children's choir among many other roles. Through the years, Judy enjoyed a rich social life, maintaining lasting friendships from her childhood and making close friends throughout her life's journey. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 12:00-2:00 pm at Edelweiss German Restaurant, 7650 W. Irving Park Rd., Norridge, Illinois, followed by a memorial service and German meal. Donations in Judy's honor may be made to the Brookfield Zoo or the Salvation Army, both organizations she long respected and supported. Funeral care provided by G.L. Hills Funeral Home.
