Josephine Theresa Stressler, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born on July 9, 1937, in Chicago, Josephine was the cherished daughter of the late Ida (nee Herold) and late John Maigler. She was predeceased by her loving husband, late Aloysius Stressler, her brother late John Maigler, and two of her beloved children: Christine and Colleen.
Josephine was the loving mother of Cathy (late Paul) Kalcsics, late Christine (Jeffrey) Roder, late Colleen (John) Jannetto, Aloysius (Melissa) Stressler and the grandmother to Christina and Daniel Kalcsics, Jean and Samantha Roder, Carly and Joel Jannetto, and Joelle and Brenden Stressler. She was also a great-grandmother to Jaxson and Maeve Kalcsics. Her role as an aunt and friend touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Josephine was a woman of many passions and talents. Her love for gardening was evident in her beautiful peonies, tulips, and daffodils at her former home on Springfield Ave in Chicago. She was known for her delightful cookies and cakes, and her skill in cooking brought joy to all who tasted her creations including her famous Saturday morning crepes. Her creative spirit shone through in her sewing, where she crafted custom doll clothes for her daughters and embroidered kitchen towels that are in use by many.
An avid reader, Josephine also enjoyed reading the newspaper and referencing the atlas map while hearing all about the trips of loved ones. She was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast and found great pleasure in conversations with family and friends, whether at the kitchen table or on the phone. Her favorite pastimes included watching shows about cooking, travel, antiques, game shows, and she embraced some technology with enthusiasm, mastering the streaming services to keep up with the recent popular shows.
A visitation to honor Josephine will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 4:00 PM until prayers at 7:00 PM, at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois.
Josephine's life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and joy. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever cherish the warmth and kindness she brought into their lives.
