James Peter Whitcomb, age 81, of Des Plaines, formerly of Evanston, Illinois passed away January 4, 2023. Beloved husband of 40 years to Vickie (nee Therrien) Whitcomb. Loving father of James P. (Rachel) Whitcomb Jr. Proud grandfather of Jack and Olivia Whitcomb, and Alex Booker. Dear brother of Thomas, Charles, the late John Whitcomb, and the late Geraldine Rhein. James was born July 22, 1941 in Evanston, Illinois to the late Julius and the late Rose (nee Loizzo) Whitcomb. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. James and his family had a deep rooted history in Des Plaines, and since 1982 he has been a member of the board of the Des Plaines History Center. He served as the President, Vice President, and as a Secretary. Visitation will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Mary Church, 794 Pearson St., Des Plaines, Illinois. Interment private in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, Illinois.
