Des Plaines
Irmgard Erika Lehmann, 86, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished member of the Des Plaines community, passed away on January 29, 2025. Her life was a testament to resilience, grace, and unwavering love.
Born on January 24, 1939 in a small German village, which was at the time Poland, Irmgard's early life was marked by the challenges of World War II. After losing her youngest brother Horst and with her father presumed dead, she embarked on a courageous journey with her mother Ida and 2 older siblings, immigrating to the United States at the age of 10, unable to speak English, but full of hope for a new life.
Irmgard's passion for beauty and community shone through her many interests.A long-standing member of the Des Plaines Garden Club for over 40 years, she found joy and purpose in cultivating her garden. Her love for the arts- ballet, classical music, and visual art- reflected her refined spirit and appreciation for life's elegant moments.
A devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Des Plaines, Irmgard's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was always impeccably dressed and known for hosting memorable family dinners, where her famous Swedish Meatballs and Schnitzel brought loved ones together.
After marrying Ronald Kadlubowski in 1967, she became a dedicated mother to Angelique Erika and Edmund Paul. Following her divorce in 1994, she remained an active community member, serving on the Mill Run Condo Complex board as treasurer until her health required her to step down.
Irmgard is survived by her sister Gisela Blecker, brother Edward Lehmann, daughter Angelique Erika (Dan Masters) Blaesner, son Edmund Paul (Malea) Kadlubowski, and her grandchildren Gavin Cole, Nina Monica, Savannah Nichole, Farrah Anne, Isabelle Ann, Eva Marie, and Josef Allen.
Irmgard's life was a beautiful journey of survival, love, and quiet strength- a story of an immigrant who built a rich, meaningful life in her adopted homeland.
