Howard F.
Grischow
Jul 19, 1928 — Jul 17, 2022
Des Plaines
Howard F. Grishow age 93 passed away on July 17, 2022. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy (nee Timmermann) in December of 2014, survived by his two daughters, Donna and Doreen. Donna (William) of Elgin, IL and Doreen (Jeffrey) of Germantown Hills, IL., two grandchildren, Lauren Link of Lincoln, IL and Michael Link of Champaign, IL. He and Dorothy were married in 1949 and built their home in Des Plaines, IL. "Howie" worked as a Tool and Die Maker for West Irving Die Cast company from age 18 as an apprentice and worked his way up to Journeyman and eventually Supervisor. He worked for West Irving for 44 years. Additionally, he received an Associate Degree from DeVry Institute of Technology in Electronic Engineering Technology and worked part-time as a Television Repair man for over 20 years. He also had a band known as "The Four Notes" originally and later "Howie's Orchestra" playing the Concertina for wedding and anniversary receptions. Howie loved gardening, fishing, hunting, and the Chicago Cubs. He was overjoyed when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016--wore his World Series Championship T-shirt for days thereafter. He and Dorothy moved from the Lutheran Home in Arlington Hts., IL to Peoria and into assisted living at Lutheran Hillside Village (LHV) in October 2014. Howie moved to the Care Center at LHV in the Spring of 2019. He got around the facility walking his wheelchair, making friends, visiting with patients and family members. His self-appointed job was to cover and uncover the large bird cages in the common area. During the height of the pandemic he wanted one of the face shields like the other staff members had to match his "Unofficial Staff Member" badge and mask. He was very social despite his stroke of 20 plus years that claimed his ability to fully express himself. He will be missed by family, friends and staff and was loved by all. Visitation will be taking place on Saturday, July 23, 2022 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 Noon at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois 60016. Interment will be in Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Howard's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Des Plaines. 855 Lee Street, Des Plaines, Illinois 60016.
