Henry Klages Jr., age 102, a resident of Des Plaines, Illinois since 1955 passed away on February 11, 2024. He was born February 8, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Henry Sr. and the late Elsa (nee Koelling) Klages. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in World War II with the 103d Infantry Division in the European theater. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He possessed a great sense of humor and a generous, kind heart. Beloved husband of 71 years to Lina Klages, with whom he was able to enjoy extensive travels around the world. He was a loving father to his children, Peter, Thomas and Amy, always encouraging and supporting them in all their endeavors. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Peter Klages and Nancy Colella, Thomas Klages and Cathy Krause, and Amy (nee Klages) and Tony Ulrich. Proud grandfather of Stephen Klages, Sarah Klages (and Ben Parvis), Alexia (nee Klages and James Hignett), Collin Ulrich (and Bee Vargas), Mitchell Ulrich, Maxwell (and Katelyn nee Ferguson) Ulrich, Drew (and Erika nee Kroening) Klages, and Emma Klages, and great-grandchildren, Charlotte Hignett, Alexander Hignett, Arlo Klages, Rhys Klages and Violet Ulrich. Dear brother of the late Robert (Lois) Klages, the late John (Helen) Klages, the late Ann (Max) Packard, and the late Nancy (John) Halversen. And proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. The family gratefully acknowledges Faith Thompson for her kind care for Henry in his final months. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 1:00 pm at St. Martin Episcopal Church, 1095 E. Thacker St., Des Plaines, Illinois.
