Arlington Heights
Grace LaVerne Lange, age 99, a resident of Arlington Heights for 13 years, formerly of Des Plaines, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2022, with her family by her side. Beloved wife for 54 years of the late Edward J. Lange. Loving mother of Barbara (James) Citti, John Lange, Theodore (Carole) Lange and Joseph (Elan) Lange. Cherished grandmother of Daniel (Rachel), Andrew (Becca) and Katherine Citti; Brittney, Allison, Adam, Ryan and Nicholas Lange. Proud great-grandmother of Henry, Ella and Vivian Citti. Dear sister of the late Ruth Nielsen, the late Lynn Nielsen, the late Harriet Bracken and the late Melvin Nielsen. She was born to her parents Harry and Grace (nee Rains) Nielsen on March 12, 1923. She attended East Maine School, a 2- room school house, and Maine Township High School, class of 1941. After she and Ed were married on August 28, 1954, they settled in Des Plaines where they raised their 4 children. LaVerne loved music, especially choral music, gospel music, jazz piano, and barbershop quartet music. She sang with the Harmonaires, a women's choral group, for over 35 years, as well as in her church choir. An avid book lover, LaVerne especially enjoyed reading biographies. She loved to play bridge, continually fascinated by the strategy and nuances of the game. Her mind was always open and curious about the world, and she espoused the value of thinking positively.
