Obituary

Gloria Doerschner passed away October 20, 2021, having lived a full life for 98 years.

Gloria was born in Chicago, to Joseph and Alice (Nunn) Barrett. She graduated from Austin High School in Chicago. She married Roy Doerschner in 1948 and were married for 60 years until his passing in 2009.

In 1967 Gloria earned her cosmetologist license and worked as a beautician for 25 years. In 1952 they bought a home in Des Plaines and resided there for the rest of their lives. They loved their neighborhood and could often be found gardening. They were active in the community. Gloria was a den mother for the cub scouts and continued to lunch with the other den mothers for 50 years. She taught reading to non-English speakers at the Des Plaines Public Library. She and Roy were volunteers for the breakfast program at South School. Her hobby was painting, she started with park district classes and continued painting for 40 years.

Gloria is survived by her sons, Dan (Margarita) Doerschner of Harbert, Michigan, and Dave (Sue) Doerschner of Cary, Illinois; grandchildren Kelly Doerschner, Matt Doerschner, and Mia Doerschner; two great-grandchildren, and niece Jill Cardellino.

Gloria and Roy enjoyed trips to Europe, and spending time in Harbor Country Michigan. Gloria was a great listener and loved people, she made friends easily and had joy in her heart. Her optimism was infectious.
