Obituary

George O. Mallett, formerly of Des Plaines IL, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 23, 2020. George was born June 26, 1936 in Coscomatepec, Veracruz, Mexico to Efrain Mallett & Alicia Morales. At the age of 21, George migrated to America after a visit to his brother, who was at seminary in New Mexico. While there, his brother challenged him to go take off to a big city. With little money to his name and not knowing any English, he ambitiously arrived in Chicago by Greyhound bus in the winter of 1958. He got his first job working in a hospital there, but his entrepreneurial spirit soon pushed him to open his own business. Over the next few decades, he continued to build the American dream, pouring grit, determination and heart into his Mexican restaurants. He was a loving and supportive father who will best be remembered by his ability to light up every room he entered and for his sometimes edgy and unapologetic humor. He was preceded in death by his parents Efrain & Alicia, his son George (Brenda), his brother Florentino and sister Rosa. He is survived by his brother Efrain, his daughter Jackie Miller, and sons Matthew, Joshua, and Mark Mallett (Stephanie Mallett-Gotter.) He is also survived by his grandchildren Derek, Jeremy, George Mallett III, Rachel & Phil Miller, Castiel Mallett, Roselyn Gotter, and his four great-grandchildren. Family, friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate the life of George Mallett Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 1:30 pm. The graveside celebration will be held at All Saints Cemetery, 700 N River Rd, Des Plaines IL, 60016. Interment services will take place in Section 33. Funeral care provided by G.L. Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Center. For information call 847-699-9003.
