Frank J. Kotnaur Jr., a longtime resident of Des Plaines, Illinois, passed away, January 10th. Born in Chicago, Frank later established his roots in Des Plaines, where he built a life centered on family and community.
During his younger years, he formed many friendships that lasted his lifetime. He attended Immaculate Conception grade school, St Patrick High School and Dominican College.
Growing up he enjoyed playing baseball and as an adult he played softball. He also played racquetball, golf, and poker with friends. He liked watching reruns of Westerns, a 'good' Bears game, the White Sox even with their losses, and "just resting my eyelids" while watching a televised golf tournament.
Frank dedicated his career to residential and commercial real estate as well as commercial property management. He was also a skilled part-time bartender and blackjack dealer. Known for his calm demeanor, even temper and an unwavering ability to remain composed under any circumstance. He was a man of many stories, and his sense of humor was enjoyed by anyone who was in his presence. His resourcefulness and creativity were unmatched.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Catherine Kotnaur, uncle John Joy, aunt Sister Catherine Ellen Joy and his brother-in-law, Ted Kalinowski. He is lovingly remembered by his sister Catherine Kalinowski, his children: Christina Kotnaur, Victoria Vargas (Daniel), and Michael Kotnaur, His niece Katie Lanter (Ryan) and nephew Teddy Kalinowski (Jenny) He also leaves behind his cherished grandson, Ethan Vargas. (And several grand-pets)

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois. A 9:15am prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 17, 2025 followed by a 10:00am funeral Mass at St. Mary Church in Des Plaines, Illinois. Entombment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, Illinois. Funeral care provided by G.L. Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
