Ferne L.
Dungan
Aug 28, 1936 — Jun 19, 2023
Chicago
Ferne "Bud" Leroy Dungan, at the age of 86, passed away peacefully at home in Chicago with his family by his side. He remained active until his final days after he was diagnosed with cancer one year ago. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lois (Loey) Dungan, nee Gladden and his three children John, Diane, Judy and a legacy of 6 grandchildren.
Bud was born August 28th, 1936 in Cando, N.D. and raised in Menomonee, MI., attended North Park University where he met his future wife. They married in the same home that he passed in. After he was drafted to the Army and assigned to duty in Germany he settled in Chicago for the rest of his days. His love of Lake Michigan, Chicago Cubs, Lincoln Park Zoo and the Civic Opera House attests to his love for the City of Chicago. In his youth he sang in a chorus and his friends and family will well remember his tenor voice and deep laugh. Sailing became a hobby in his mid-life after buying a summer home on Bass Lake, IN. Back home his neighbors in Andersonville would often see him walking the dog or tending to the lawn or making some repair to the house. Over the years he and his wife lived in four different residences within a 2 block area, both enjoying the block parties and watching the kids grow up.
Bud requested that his family, in lieu of a memorial service and visitations, have a day for a celebration of life.
