Elfriede "Elly" Weihsmantel age 87 of Des Plaines, IL passed away Sunday, July 7, 2019. Beloved wife of Richard Weihsmantel for 57 years. Loving mother of Jim Weihsmantel and Trudy (Chris) Kain. Fond grandmother of Bruce, Adam, Kyle, and Noel. She is survived by her sister Liesel. "Elly" was born and raised in a small town in the Black Forest of Germany during World War II. In the late 1950s, she immigrated to the United States and wound up in Chicago where she met Richard and got married.   She taught herself the English language. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a room mom and a Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks fan. Elly volunteered at Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and loved going to Door County in Wisconsin. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be remembered with love. Memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church 766 Graceland Ave, Des Plaines, IL on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in the name of Elly to American Heart Association heart.org.
