Doris Carol Harvel (nee Peterson), age 89, a resident of Des Plaines, Illinois since 1981, formerly of Wheeling, passed away June 27, 2024. Beloved wife of 28 years to the late Gene Harvel. Loving mother of Gary Harvel, Larry (Pam) Thomas, Daniel (Maggie) Thomas, Jeffry Thomas, Donna Wallenfang, and step-mother of Donna (Denes) Balo, Bill (Milica) Harvel, and Karen Sampson. Proud grandmother of 18, step-grandmother of 10, and great-grandmother of 18, step-great-grandmother of 11. Dearest best friend to the late Betty Tobias, Vicky McManaway, and Anna Marie Markko.

Doris was born December 25, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Emil and the late Esther (nee Lentz) Peterson. She was a long-time and devoted member of St. Mary Church in Des Plaines. There she served in the Altar and Rosary Society. Doris was also a member of the Des Plaines Elks Club. She will be remembered and missed by all those who knew her.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois. Funeral services will be Monday, July 1, 2024 beginning with prayers at 9:15 am at the funeral home, followed by Mass at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church, 794 Pearson St., Des Plaines, Illinois.
