Obituary

Clare Bellon (Tootsie), age 88, a resident of Des Plaines, Illinois since 1960 passed away September 28, 2022. Beloved wife of 68 years to Rudy Bellon. Loving mother of Jill (Mike) Gorgas, Gail Bellon, Rudy (Eileen) Bellon, and Cheryl (Steve Blondell) Burke. Proud grandmother of Jennifer (Chuck) Fiedler, Jay (Michelle Bittick) Barry, Jackie (Bryan Vespo) Kenyon, Kristofer Ainsworth, William Burke, Sean Herman, Melisa Gelmini, Mark (Stephanie) Gelmini and the late Alan Gelmini.
Great Grandmother to Ashley (Andrew) Heckman, Brittney (Josh Williams) Graser, Kristen Fiedler, Alyssa Fiedler, Charlie (Kiersten) Fiedler, Cianna Vespo, Payton Chmura, Ethan Petoscia, and Gemma Gelmini.
Also boasting 6 great-great grandchildren, Liliana Fiedler, Lorelai Fiedler, Lydia Fiedler, Carter Salazar, Logan Heckman, and Madison Heckman.
Clare was born March 27, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Heinrich F. and the late Clara E. (nee Ehlert) Dautel. Dear sister of the late Henry (Carol) Dautel and the late Jeanette (William) Odean.
As a young girl, Clare was a little bit of a tomboy and loved to play baseball and other sports with the neighborhood kids. An avid Chicago Cubs fan since she was a young girl, she kept a log of all the players and also would write score cards while listening to the games.
She was also a classically trained pianist and a National Honor student. After graduating from Steinmetz High School, she married Rudolph Bellon in 1954 and worked in the loop in the banking industry. When her children started school, Clare was very involved in their education and school activities, including being a PTA president and Girl Scout leader. After Clare had raised her children for many years, she returned to work as the school secretary at Orchard Place School, where she stayed for over 20 years until she retired.
Clare had a fantastic sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was particularly fond of a bad pun - the kind that would make you groan. She also loved music and Fred Astaire movies. There isn't anyone in her family who doesn't know the words to many old songs including, "My Sweetheart's the Man in the Moon" which was her favorite.
Her family was extremely close and celebrated all birthdays and holidays together. She hosted a huge family Thanksgiving dinner for many years with an average attendance of about 40 to 50 family members. The culmination of the evening usually ended with Clare playing the piano or organ and the family singing along to old favorites and Christmas songs.
Most importantly, she loved her husband and family and will be dearly missed by everyone - friends and family alike.
