Ankine Yazicioglu (nee Sirinyan), 94, of Mount Prospect, IL passed away peacefully on June 2, 2022. Ankine was born on April 16, 1928, in Kinaliada, one of the Prince Islands in the sea of Marmara, near Istanbul Turkey to parents Onnik and Mariam Sirinyan. She was the oldest of three sisters, the late Sirpuhi Nacar and Nadia Mirijanian. Ankine lost her father at a young age. She and her two sisters were raised by their mother and grandmother on Kinaliada. She began her primary education at Nersesyan elementary school and completed her education at Esayan Armenian School. Ankine was married in 1952, to her late husband of 61 years, Avedis Yazicioglu. They immigrated to the United States in the early 70s where she worked as a bookkeeper at Oxford Clothing until her retirement. She was a devoted aunt and loved spending time with her great nieces and nephews. She was an avid reader of mystery novels and National Geographic. She loved to travel, going to the theater and spending time at the waterfront. She is survived by her sister Nadia and her brother-in-law Krikor Mirijanian, her nephew Masis (Nelly) Mirijanian, nieces Sibil (Shahan) Alexanian, Sona (Gary) Rejebian, Arpi (Larry) Yazijian, great nieces and nephews Tania (Arden) Kurtjian, Shant (Sasha) Alexanian, Nick (Emily) Rejebian, Andrew Rejebian, Chloe Mirijanian, Jacey Birkenmeyer, and great-grandnephew Alek Kurtjian. Visitation will be taking place on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 beginning at 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at St. James Armenian Church located at 816 Clark Street in Evanston, Illinois, 60201.
