Alice Jeanne (Scott) Malebranche Olson, 95, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 9, 2019.  Born May 15, 1923 in Chicago, she is preceded in death by her husband Roy and four brothers (Walter, Art, Don and John).

Growing up in Chicago, Alice attended Funston Elementary and Kelvyn Park High School. Alice was a long time resident of Des Plaines, and enjoyed being part of and giving back to the community.  She was an active member at St. John's and St. Martin's. Alice also enjoyed volunteering at the community senior center and delivering meals to friends and neighbors.

An angel on Earth to all who knew her, Alice will be remembered for her generosity, her infectious smile, and recipes. She always made sure she had treats when anyone stopped by. Her recipes for zucchini bread, tea cookies, peanut butter crunch bars, and Palestine Salad are treasured by her friends and family.  Texas Chocolate Cake will never taste the same without her.

Alice had the wonderful ability to cultivate a unique relationship with each grandchild and great-grandchild, making each one feel like they were her favorite.  She adored being a grandma and ensured her grandchildren knew how to play Rummikub, even though she usually won. A few great grandchildren were able to experience the joy of winning against her…though not frequently.

Alice never missed a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion and always managed to have the cards show up on the exact day.  Her grandchildren will never forget the monthly college care packages that always managed to contain a loaf of zucchini bread and a pair of footies.

Beloved by her family, she is survived by her 5 children, Paul (Barbara) Malebranche of Bowie, MD, Mary (James) O'Brien of Woodstock, IL, James (Chris) Malebranche of Plainfield, IL, Mark (Barb) Malebranche of San Diego, CA and Laura (Steve) Ksiazek of Hoffman Estates, IL; 16 grandchildren, Joe (Kim) Malebranche, Michelle Malebranche, Lynn (James) Misulonas, Scott (Jenni) DeCaluwe, Gwen (Michael) Hockemeyer, Becky (Steve) Campbell, Mark (Kelly) Malebranche, Alyson (James) Cardines, Emily Malebranche, Robby Malebranche, Meghan (Joe) Martinez,  Jonathan Ksiazek, Elizabeth Ksiazek, and Jessica (Josh) Miller, James (Tamara) Malebranche and Julie (Geoff) Miline; 25 great grandchildren, Brooke, Breanna, Alexis, Quinten, Gavin, Abigail, Hannah, Morgan, Matthias, Gabriel, Betsy, CJ, Violet, Spencer, Peter, Dominick, Claire, Logan, Nora, Isabel, Clara, Ben, Karrah, James, and Juliette; and 1 great- great grandchild, Grayson.

Memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2019 beginning at 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 2:30 p.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 1095 E.
